Biography

Valter Alves é professor no Departamento de Informática na Escola Superior de Tecnologia e Gestão de Viseu, do Instituto Politécnico de Viseu. Atualmente leciona disciplinas nas áreas de interação humano-computador, multimédia e design gráfico, aos cursos de Sistemas e Tecnologias de Informação para as Organizações, Engenharia Informática, Tecnologias e Design de Multimédia, Marketing, e semestres internacionais.

É doutorado em Ciências e Tecnologias da Informação pela Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia da Universidade de Coimbra. O grau de mestre em Sistemas e Tecnologias da Informação e a licenciatura em Engenharia Informática foram-lhe também conferidos por essa instituição.

É membro investigador no Centro de Estudos em Educação, Tecnologias e Saúde (CI&DETS), tendo também já integrado o Centro de Informática e Sistemas da Universidade de Coimbra (CISUC). Os seus interesses em termos de investigação científica incluem a interação humano-computador, experiência de utilização, desenho de som, conceção de jogos, emoção, contextos, ecologia acústica, e apoio a pessoas com deficiência. O projecto "Sound Design in Games - An approach based on Design Patterns and assisted by a Deck of Cards", soundingames.com, é parte da sua atual investigação científica.

Pertence ao comité permanente da Audio Mostly e é membro das Sonic Studio Networks. É também membro da Sociedade Portuguesa de Ciências dos Videojogos.

 

Valter Alves is a Professor of Computer Science at the Informatics Department of the Polytechnic Institute of Viseu, Portugal. He currently teaches courses in areas including human-computer interaction, multimedia and graphic design, to students in Information Systems and Technologies for Organizations, Informatics Engineering, Technology and Design of Multimedia, Marketing, and international semesters.

Valter holds a Phd in Information Science and Technology, from the Faculty of Sciences and Technology of the University of Coimbra. He also holds a degree in Informatics Engineering and a MsC in Information Systems and Technologies, from that same institution.

Valter is a researcher at the Centre for the Study of Education, Technologies and Health (CSETH) and formerly at the Centre for Informatics and Systems of the University of Coimbra (CISUC). His research interests embrace human-computer interaction, user experience, sound design, game design, emotions, context, acoustic ecology, and support to the handicapped. Sound Design in Games – An approach based on Design Patterns and assisted by a Deck of Cards – soundingames.com is part of his current research.

Valter is a member of the Audio Mostly steering committee – check him at Sonic Studio Networks. He is also member of Sociedade Portuguesa de Ciências dos Videojogos.
